ඵෙතිහාසික වටිනාකමකින් හෙබි සබරගමුව පළාතේ, රත්නපුර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ, ඕපනායක ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාශයේ, වැලිගෙපොල ප්‍රාදේශීය සභා මහජන පුස්තකාලය පිහිටා ඇත. ඕපනායක කොට්ඨාශය ඵෙතිහාසික වැදගත් ස්ථාන රාශියකින් සමන්විතය.

වර්ෂ 1970 දී පමණ ආරම්භ කර ඇති කුඩා පොත් එකතුවක් පදනම් කොටගෙන ඇරඹුණු මෙම පුස්තකාලය මේ වන විට ත්‍රෛභාෂාවම නියෝජනය වන පරිදි පොත් 16000 ක පමණ පොත් එකතුවක් ඇති ඉපැරණි පුස්තකාලයකි. එසේම මෙම පොත් එකතුව අතර ස්වර්ණ පුස්තක සම්මාන පොත් එකතුව, සබරගමුව කෘති එකතුව, පුස්කොල එකතුව, ආනන්ද මෛත්‍රී හිමි කෘති එකතුව, මාර්ටින් වික්‍රමසිංහ කෘති එකතුව, බලංගොඩ මානවයා පිළිබඳ එකතුව, ලංකා ඉතිහාසය කෘති එකතුව, ශ්‍රී ලංකා වනාන්තර කෘති එකතුව හා දමිළ කෘති එකතුවක් ද පිහිටුවා ඇත.

4000 කට අධික පාඨකයින් සමූහයකට සේවාව සපයන මෙම පුස්තකාලය, පොත් බැහැර දෙන අංශය, විමර්ශන අංශය, ළමා අංශය, පුවත්පත් අංශය, තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ අංශය, සඟරා අංශය හා පොත් බැඳීමේ අංශය යන අංශයන්ගෙන් සමත්විතය. තවද සුවිශේෂි සේවා අංශයන් ලෙස පෝෂණ තොරතුරු ඒකකය හා ප්‍රජා තොරතුරු ඒකකයක් පවත්වාගෙන යනු ලැබේ. ව්‍යාප්ති සේවාවන් ලෙස ජංගම පුස්තකාල සේවාව හා ශ්‍රව්‍ය දෘශ්‍ය මාධ්‍ය ඔස්සේ විවිධ විනෝදාංශ වැඩසටහන් ද පවත්වයි. පාඨකයන්ට සොබාදහම හා සම්බන්ධ නවමු කියවීම් අත්දැකීමක් එක් කරන කියවීම් ශාලාවක් ද මෙහි ස්ථාපිත කර ඇත. වැලිගෙපොල ස්වර්ණ ජයන්ති පුස්තකාලය, ගල්පාය සේවන පුස්තකාලය හා අකරැල්ල කියවීම් ශාලාව යන ශාඛා පුස්තකාල මහජන පුස්තකාලයට අනුබද්ධව පවත්වාගෙන යනු ලබයි.

2018 වර්ෂයේ, ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්ෂණ නියෝජිතායතනය (ICTA) හා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මණ්ඩලය හා එක්ව “ඩිජිටල් පුස්තකාල ව්‍යාපෘතිය” හරහා යාවත්කාලීන සංස්කරණ මුහුණුවරකින් යුත් පූර්ණ පුස්තකාල ස්වයංක්‍රීය පද්ධතියක් ද නවීන අංගෝපාංගයන් හා සේවාවන්ගෙන් සපිරි නව තාක්ෂණික අත්දැකිමක් සඳහා දොරටු විවර කර ඇත.

Waligepola pradeshiya Sabha public library is situated in Openayake Secretariat division in Ratnapura District of Sabaragamuwa Province. The library started with a small collection of books in 1970 and currently the collection has increased up to around 16,000. The collection includes Swarna pusthaka awards winning book collection, Sabaraguamu collection, Ola leaves book collection, Ananda Mithree Thero collection, Martin Wickramasighe collection, Homo sapiens balangodensis book collection, Ceylon history collection, forests of Sri Lanka book collection and Tamil collection.

This library consists of a lending, reference, children, newspaper, IT, magazines and a book binding section catering more than 4000 patrons. Special services provide a nutrition information unit and a community information unit. Extension services include a mobile library, programs for public using audio visual facilities. A reading area is built outside of the library building for readers to read peacefully. The branches of this library are Weligepola Swarnajayanthi library, Galpaya library and Akarella reading hall.

In 2018, The Digital Libraries Project was implemented at this public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board by providing an advanced and updated library automation system and introduced modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country.
